Open-source use of closed source models?

riccardogiorato Nov 13, 2019 View on HN

Is it possible to open source the source with the model and the training data?

frabcus Jul 24, 2024 View on HN

It is open weights not open source. If you can't train it and don't know the training data and can't use it to train your own models, it is a closed model aa a whole. Even if you have the binary weights.

minimaxir Apr 20, 2023 View on HN

Unfortunately yes, as the corresponding model is not also open-source.

GalaxyNova Oct 31, 2023 View on HN

are you planning on open sourcing the model eventually?

strin Feb 18, 2021 View on HN

lol they didn’t open source the model weights

pabs3 Dec 20, 2024 View on HN

The source data for the training needs to be public and freely licensed too, otherwise its IMO not an open source model.

Is this model as closed as GPT-3, or has it been open-sourced?

Why include OpenAI's non open source models in a list of open source wannabes?

pietz Oct 16, 2024 View on HN

Is your model really open source or did you misunderstand the question?
