So... A de facto ban on exiting the country?

philfrasty Sep 14, 2017 View on HN

Does this work for non US-residents e.g. tourist, conference, etc? Or do they politely show you the way out (the country)?

> deportationisn't this what you'd want? deported back to your country? It's not like you could be denied entry at the airport, and deported back to the foreign country...

That's the border. What if they put him on a no fly list? There are stories of citizens stuck overseas because of that.

ansgri Aug 11, 2013 View on HN

Are you sure they'll allow you to leave the country in this case? They have no-fly list and border control after all.

ApolloFortyNine Apr 14, 2024 View on HN

The "problem" is that you could get on a list to be denied entry at the border if you ever choose to travel.

slt2021 Sep 15, 2025 View on HN

would this lead to US citizens abroad be stuck and no ability to come back to US or travel anywhere?

Grangar Jan 26, 2017 View on HN

Yeah except that you might not be able to re-enter the country if you leave to visit family or something.

beberlei Jun 24, 2019 View on HN

maybe they just don't know yet that they don't want to accept people with US passports :-)

lwhalen Jun 18, 2017 View on HN

And 'just not entering that country' isn't a solution how?
