Maybe change school times? They finish before 4pm.
This!!! Kids (where i live) go to school 9-2, and it is a true nightmare to extend those hours to fit with parents longer work schedule. Let's just make both the same! Also free afternoons every day, better than a longer weekend.
> My children (9, 6, and 4) spend nearly the whole day...Are they home schooled? Most schools are contemporaneous with working hours to prevent this very problem.
One reason IIRC is that the daily physical cycle for most people shortens as we get older.Another thing is that the travel times to get to school is quite long in suburban/rural locations. I remember one job I had that had a long commute and I would see kids waiting for the school bus at 7 AM.Contrast that with my high school, that was a 15 minute walk and didn't start till 8:15. Much less stressful.
That's a little unreasonable as school time happens to be be during work hours.
I never understood this. Parents tend to get off work around 5-6, right? Schools were so adamant, in my experience, about getting kids out of there (and sending all the staff/faculty home) by 3:30. This is at every grade level, including those where the students can not yet drive. This also means that there's an extra need for school-provided transportation (busses). The need for more than half of the student body to ride busses feels like a huge process smell to me, both in that the c
School hours are 9-3:20 where I live, so they are nowhere near in line with working hours as you need time to get to work and not many jobs finish that early. Most schools run breakfast clubs and after school clubs as a result.
I think it's not just about the long break, but also this mean you end the school day at a more reasonable time. I think school would end at 3PM.. when all normal people are still at work. I remember my school had some afterschool playground area where we're run around and kill time till our parents could arrive. Having the same break during the day would have probably been nicer mentally (and I'm guessing the teachers would move lesson planning and grading to that extra hour afte
I doubt they have the option really. It's a catch 22. Schools start early so people can go to work.
Starting at 8 years old I used to attend classes that starts at 7:15 am and ends at 4:15 pm. Both my parents are working full time.Maybe in other parts of the world this is something horrible but in some countries this is our way of life. We don't complain instead we are very thankful that we CAN go to school unlike others that cannot.
