P2P Network Alternatives

Commenters propose peer-to-peer (P2P) networks like BitTorrent, IPFS, and Spotify's early model as decentralized solutions to replace centralized servers, aiming to cut costs, bandwidth, and single points of failure, while discussing challenges like NAT, firewalls, and initial connectivity needs.

What about some form of P2P for this?

pmoriarty Apr 20, 2023 View on HN

Aren't there some distributed, peer-to-peer networks that could be used for this purpose?

borism Apr 25, 2010 View on HN

there's no good open p2p stack that would be able to support it (eliminating the need for servers would be priority #1 for such project)

P2P networking or self-hosting?

jaggirs Aug 11, 2020 View on HN

Peer to peer internet is what is missing I suppose.

gremloni Sep 28, 2021 View on HN

Peer to peer internet would work well.

If only there existed a peer to peer solution that doesn't require trusting a central host
