It depends if you're "getting rid" of existing customers by forcing them into the new pricing. I don't think that's ever a good idea - they signed up at a specific price and shouldn't be forced to change if they don't want to. That's how Server Density have implemented this change - it's for new signups only. Existing customers can move if they wish but they'll never be forced to.
The pricing/limit changes are very aggressive. It's hard to believe they don't affect 98% of current users according to them.
Suggestion: "Lessons learned from Chargify's recent pricing change"
Reminds me of Pinata where they recently changed their pricing and I went from needing a $20/month plan to $1000/month.
This feels like a bait-and-switch, especially after taking the time to learn Hetzner and start telling my peers about Hetzner. I understand that pricing structures need to update, but good god existing users should have been kept as-is going forward. This behavior, and the cute little "cancel anytime!" has made me pause suggesting Hetzner in my circles as I re-evaluate their company.
The developer changed the pricing model about a month back (?). People who got it before the change were grandfathered into the premium service.
It's not so much as the money that's upsetting, as much as the broken trust when prices are adjusted upwards so dramatically. For example, our monthly prices will go from 0 to $99/month. You can say that may be a good thing, forcing us to focus on customer acquisition. But the point is that a service we budgeted X dollars for suddenly, dramatically increased. Of course $1200/yr is not life threatening. However, the trust is gone (or, at least it's dissolving quickly). As I wrote in my email to C
Chargify can charge what it wants, but the pricing change was abrupt and BIG. Apps on the ground floor went from FREE to $1200/year. No grandfathering, 30 days to accept. For a service that needs to be integrated, that's a terrible move that shows no respect for startups.
Your upgrade price for customers that purchased less than a year ago is pretty insulting.
I just joined Chargify Oct. 7th after the AppSumo bundle offered a $200 credit. 4 days later, they've raised their prices. I'm going to scrap the work I've done and go out of my way to use other services. The money isn't an issue. $99/month is fine, but I wouldn't pay it to get started.
