Given what happened in Sweden when he was kicked out of the Ecuadorian embassy and the UK arrested him for extradition to the US, I believe the Swedish accusations were made, and the prosecutions were done, in good faith.Assange's argument against going to Sweden should've logically also applied to the UK, where he physically was while trying to make the argument to avoid extradition to Sweden, as demonstrated by the UK not even bothering to inform the Swedish authorities when they
Hardly, first off Sweden (I'm a swedish native) has already done covert extraditions of atleast two swedish citizens to USA authorities.Secondly Assange has offered to come to Sweden if given the promise that the Swedish government won't be extradite him to the USA, something the Swedish government refuses to do.So yes, as a swedish native I have no doubt that 'my government' would indeed extradite him should he set his foot on swedish soil again. And he is not even cal
Rather extradited – to Sweden or the US, the latter maybe via Sweden … that seems to be the real issue, not the rape accusations (although rape accusations are known as a powerful weapon to destroy enemies – although that does of course not rule out that Assange is actually a rapist under Swedish law).
Absolute rot. If the US wanted to extradite him then the UK is a far better place to get him from thanks to our extradition treaty. Why on earth would either country state they won't extradite him when they haven't been asked to extradite him and have no idea what the grounds for any extradition might be?The secret trial process is presumably one that gives protection to the privacy of victims of sexual assault. Sweden has its own legal system, if you happen to go to Sweden you have to abide
Yes. I think the Swedes want to extradite Assange to face rape charges. Also, the Swedes are not Swiss. Europe is tricky, I know.
The Swedish rape allegations were an obvious sham and have already been dropped years ago. Usually when this happens the case is just dropped, yet the UK really pressed in arresting Assange for "failing to appear in court", which is most countries is a minor thing (the accused is not punished for lying in court or missing court dates). I think it's obvious that any excuse will do for extraditing him to the US, to make an example of him. But so much time has passed and the case is
The scenario was that he would get extradited to Sweden, the case finds him not guilty, and then get extradited to the US. Assange tried to get the Swedish government to openly declare that this would not occur, and the Government replied that they could not make such statement. The argument generally comes that once existing legal proceeding are done, the agreement between Sweden and the US allow for extradition. This exact same chain of events will now likely happen with the UK case. Once th
There is no request for extradition over which anyone could haggle. There is no concrete evidence that the US is going to make such a request. If there would be a request, as you say yourself, Sweden doesn't necessarily have to honor it, for example if Assange faces capital punishment. Assange could probably fight extradition in court also.In any case this is nothing here to suggest that this is anything more than a smokescreen thrown up by Assange to distract from the fact that he
"Sweden is a US ally and was just going to turn around and extradite him to the USA"Sweden's actual extradition agreement is much more limited than Assange claimed. The UK's is much friendlier to the UK, so if he was honestly worried about extradition his behavior was strange and is more plausibly explained by him trying to cover up his rape. His account was mostly false and deeply misleading about what Sweden did and did not extradite for, which would make sense if it was
US war deserters have taken refuge in Sweden ever since Vietnam. So far none of them has been extradited. So why Sweden? If the US wanted him extradited, it would be far easier to do it from the UK.I think it is better to look for a more likely explanation. Perhaps it is not more complicated than it seems on the surface. Some strange things happened between him and two girls, we don't know what's true there, and when they finally got around to question him he had already left the
