Just use Proxmox, it's fantastic for many vMware use-cases.
Proxmox is quite good, it's not VMWare, but hey, it's not VMWare ;-)
How is xen a suitable alternative to VMware in a situation where proxmox isn't?
For such a small system VMware seems like a weird choice. Why not proxmox?
Proxmox.com integrates OpenVZ and KVM virtualization with a decent Web GUI. Might be just the ticket for those not needing all of the ESX features.
I’m curious… Why hyper-v and not something like proxmox?
This is like Proxmox and ESXi alternative. Xen is Type-1 hypervisor, a.k.a native or bare-metal. I just finished fresh install. And install Xen Orchestra from sources (unlocks all features):https://github.com/ronivay/XenOrchestraInstallerUpdaterhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq1iKO
Proxmox works fine for that, in my experience.
I’ve heard good things about Proxmox VE: https://www.proxmox.com/en/proxmox-ve
Why use vmware's stack over proxmox?
