Most of my coworkers who normally work in the office (I am remote, and WFH) seem pretty eager to get back to it. Many people prefer the social environment of the office, and don't really have the space at home in expensive cities to work. Or they live with family members, which makes it harder to focus, and can make video calls harder.
Not my experience. Some people just like to have people around, some don’t have space for an office at home, some need the socializing at the office and so one. People are different. I prefer working at the office even though I have a life outside of work and I have an office at home. Granted, my commute is only 15-30 minutes depending on traffic.
Most of the comments on here relate to aspects of remote work and its limitations, but I haven’t seen anyone say what seems obvious to me - Having an office is nice! It’s good for me to have a place that my brain associates exclusively with work. It’s nice to interact with teammates in person. If I need quiet time or even if the weather is nice and I don’t feel like going into the office, I can go work from a cafe somewhere. I certainly see the appeal of remote work, but to me, having an office
Number one reason for me is the separation of work and private life. It's so much easier to keep work from creeping into my private life when it happens in a totally different place.I also miss the social interactions, discussion with colleagues is much easier in person. Lastly, I hope it will reduce the amount of video conferences that crept up considerably.edit: Not OP obviously.edit2: Note: Just to make sure, I know this is personal preference and I am perfectly happy with other
I'd love to work in an office most days a week. I enjoy the people, I think it helps with work/life boundaries and distractions. Especially if it was flexible. But it would have to be an actual office. Like with a door. And room for a photo of my wife or two. Maybe a silly LED project. If my choice is having to be somewhere at a certain time with absolutely no privacy, sometimes not even the ability to set stuff up and leave it, or WFH, it's WFH every time.Maybe now that th
I perfectly fit the profile you described. I live in SF in a small apt. I can easily afford a much bigger place for the same amount. But working with collegues @ office is a soo much fun. if the company gets fully remote, its really hard to connect with coworkers and hangout.
You're not missing anything. People need and want different things.I hate commuting. It's wasteful and pointless.I have many sensitivities that are difficult to manage in a busy environment. Managing them is distracting and cuts down the amount of productive time I can use in a day. When I'm at home or in a small office I get more done and feel less stressed out at the end of the day.I don't spend as much time and effort making social connections through work as othe
Even if I lived next door to an office where I had a private room and my teammates there I wouldn't want to go at all, for many reasons. Off the top of my head:- Even without commute there's at least 30-45 minutes of preparation to be decent for the office,- The office invariably doesn't have the setup that I want and have at home,- People are able to come "bother" you all day long.None of those are things I'm willing to put up with.
I would refuse it. I could never work from home regularly. I spend enough time there, I want an excuse to get out into the world. It would be so boring for me not to be surrounded by people, activity, and energy. Even if I'm not interacting with people I prefer to be around them in general rather than sit alone all day.I think you don't hear about this because it's the norm and very neutral and fundamental. I don't think most people struggle with commuting, being around pe
Coming from someone who is hugely support of WFH, It’s not for everyone. My home is for sleeping, eating, entertainment and comfort. I don’t want or have room for a home office. Many people don’t.It’s also absurd that I would want to have zoom calls with colleagues or managers all day. Feels like the corporation is invading my personal space. Personally I don’t want to have my corporate overlords invade my home. An office offers me a way to GO TO work. And then LEAVE work, and go somewhere
