Interesting. You have a reference? Been listening to his music for ~40 years and this is the first I hear that.
The smile on his face is telling. It reminded me of another old legend of music, and unsurprisingly, they were jamming together not long ago:http://imgur.com/6UnkEd5 (from http://www.jambands.com/news/2012/12/04/bernard-purdie-joins...)<
Incredible artist. Never got to see him live but listened to him so much growing up. Nostalgic feeling.
I had no idea this would be such big news on HN. Chick is one of those musicians who plugged straight into my brain. Saw him live with Origin and remember being awestruck both at the music that was happening, as well as the fact that Chick wasn’t going to let his best days be in his past.
All of this hits me unexpectedly - the sudden passing of a drummer I grew up listening to, and admired the (for me, then) complexity on timing and playing on songs like "monkey wrench" or "all my life" and 12-14 yo me tried to emulate playing along them with sticks on the couch - and how his energy was present on their recordings. And the fact that this happened in my city and I learned about it on hacker news.
I was about to mention this. Interestingly enough, I found this out the hard way, as I was struck by a sudden urge to listen to Sign o' the Times late one night in college.Upon signing into YouTube, I was surprised not only to not find any of his songs uploaded, but to also find several articles about his extreme distaste for digital music after Googling the topic. I ended up going to the record shop and buying a used copy. And as far as the topic of whether this story should on HN, I
Grew up listening to these guys (in fact, even in the womb I was at their concerts) and I would certainly say that their music has shaped who I am for the better. It is absolutely bonkers that they (or, Fripp at least) are still playing music after 50 years and still touching the hearts of so many people.A little bit off topic -- but we had a new consultant join our team and the only personal effect he brought with him was a grateful dead dancing bears mug. I have no idea what he does but w
man made such good music in his prime it still gives you shivers.
Never expected to see Freddie King mentioned on HN! What a great performer.
Jerry Garcia had a similar situation iirc.
