Try to post your articles to a place where they would be relevant. If your blog is about programming or startup, people from HN might be interested in it and upvote it. Then, once the search engines know about your blog, you can try to do some SEO so people will find it when looking for something related.
Blog more often, and blog about you using your tool to solve problems. Use titles that don't talk about your tool, but about the problem you're solving in the article.It's likely people will search on google for these problems, find you post and thus try out your tool. Also, post your blogs ton HN/Reddit, 1 every n posts will hit.
One approach is to write a blog posting about how you created your product and get it on the front page of Hacker News

Ah - you're interested in releasing press releases, not generating them.I would start contacting relevant blogs / bloggers directly. If you can get it picked up in a few major channels, it will echo. Posting to HN can also be a good method. In either case, it helps to have a good presentation with some appropriate media content so that it's easy to prepare a compelling article about it.
