Moderation being left to unpaid community members is a sign that Reddit DOES take moderation seriously
Users moderate the moderators, if they don't like the tone of a subreddit they split off into another subreddit.
Human reddit moderators already can't do that from my experience
Reddit would be an absolute, unmitigated disaster without moderation.
Most censorship comes from subreddit mods, not Reddit the company.
Reddit is a heavily gatekeeped community by the mods in regards to specific topics
Reddit is just a platform. If mods of a subreddit are seen as being heavy-handed in their moderation then people a free to create a competing subreddit.
Good for reddit. Subreddits aren't moderators personal fiefdoms.
Users can create their own communities called subreddits. If they do, they are the first and only moderator of that sub. A sub can be about anything, and if other users enjoy that type of content they can subscribe.Ultimately mods can remove or approve any post they desire. Some mods are hands-off, and others curate content. It depends on their goals for the subreddit. If users are not happy with the content of the sub or the moderation style, they can subscribe to a competitor subreddit
why wouldn't reddit remove all the mods and open the subs?
