I've used minimalist cases for my the last 3 or 4 phones, dropped them all plenty of times, and never suffered more than a minor scratch on the screen. I assume phones are just much tougher than 10 years ago, but the case isn't hurting the cause and I'm too scared not to use one.

Anecdote - my wife went through 3 iPhone screens in the course of 18 months due to dropped phones (6, 8, 8) but then she got a plus-sized iPhone and an otter box case and hasn't broken one in years.

But don't people use phone cases anyway to protect these fragile devices? what's the point then?

I've had this attitude before, but I must say, the recent iPhones at least (iPhone 11 in my case) are ridiculously resistant to damage.Mine is not in a case and regularly has scary-looking falls, but there's almost no-scratch. Only on the edges of the aluminum body you can see the paint scratched off in some places.I've found that the added bulk of a case makes me drop my phone much more frequently.

Maybe it handles falls so your phone doesn't have to?

The phones are incredibly tough, I have never used a case and I've only cracked my screen once and that was like 8 years ago.

I dont use a screen protector but have a good case to handle the falls, so far so good.

i haven't had a case on my iPhone in 6 years. the screens do not in fact break easily. some people are more clumsy than others. some just prefer to have a case for whatever reason. the same is true for android phones.

You don't use phone cases, I take it?

Exactly!Slim sleack shiny phones which break when dropped. Easily dropped because of shiny slippery surface. What to do? Put some cheap something around it.....And I'm wondering why people ask me why I don't have a case around my phone.I don't get the thin phone to have more space for the plastic protection that's why...
