That's the only sane way to use Ubuntu. Snap is abomination

Why not install an Ubuntu spin that doesn't distribute snap?

timbit42 Dec 13, 2022 View on HN

Ubuntu is embracing an extending Linux through it's Snap repo. Dump it now.

Well, there is nothing wrong with Ubuntu, just Snap.

llarsson Apr 23, 2020 View on HN

That sounds like a huge "1 issue", then, if Snaps are supposed to be the way forward for installing packages in Ubuntu as other threads make it seem.

Thank you - :)Reading about the cons of Snap now - "auto-updates cannot be turned off" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snap_(package_manager)

Why is not having snap packages good? You can just not use it if you don't like it?

l0b0 Apr 23, 2022 View on HN

If you dislike snaps I'd suggest having a look at Nix. Feel free to ask if you're looking for any specific feature snaps (or debs) aren't providing.

Won't Ubuntu still use Snap though?

jjgreen Apr 16, 2021 View on HN

Try Mint (which is derive from Ubuntu, but which strips out all of the snap nonsense).
