wait, why not just ssh/sftp?

picozeta Nov 4, 2015 View on HN

Couldn't you use ssh and build something with sshfs?

xuhu Mar 18, 2017 View on HN

Does this or any of the mentioned alternatives work over ssh ?

spicybright Nov 26, 2021 View on HN

I've done SSHFS to fairly good success for this too.

Do you know you can mount a remote filesystem using sshfs? It changed my life a few years back. Super easy to use and no need to have the functionality built into the editor, which in my opinion, isn't where this functionality belongs anyway.

For scripting, no doubt about that! But if you want to use some custom tool you can use sshfs to mount whatever is on the other side onto your system and work from there. That has its own set of limitations but it makes some stuff much easier.

Why not just use sshfs and edit locally with whatever you want?

H1Supreme Sep 13, 2017 View on HN

Agreed. SSHFS is the way to go.

There is TRAMP.https://www.gnu.org/software/tramp/I am not sure if it will fit your needs or not.

Give Emacs + Tramp a shot. It might be what you are looking for.
