Ubuntu was always like this. Use Debian.
I started with Ubuntu, but got turned off my lack of stability, Snaps, old kernels, and obnoxious marketing. I switched to Debian, which fixes most of these issues (but not the old kernels). I like that Debian still uses apt-get and has a huge repository. The smaller repo is what keeps me off Fedora. If you're an Ubuntu refugee looking for a compatible distro, give Debian a try.
Ubuntu use to be a go to for me, but lately I'd rather opt for debian or RHEL for a more stable sensible experience.
I left Ubuntu when they started pushing snaps. Linux Mint and Debian are much better.
The good thing about Ubuntu is that it has so many forks: Xubuntu (Xfce), Kubuntu (KDE), Lubuntu (LXDE). They all use the same Ubuntu repositories. For example, you can get an Lubuntu system by removing the unity and gnome package from Ubuntu and installing the LXDE ones. I held off upgrading my Ubuntu machine from 10 because of the Unity thing. I installed Lubuntu 12 on another laptop last week and everything works great and there pretty much aren't any surprises going from 10.What's annoyin
Let me take a guess:You have exclusively used Debian-family distros.Try a desktop distro like Fedora. Debian-family is a server distro that got famous after Conical/Ubuntu did marketing really hard.Ubuntu is the Apple of Linux, they are famous from marketing, not quality.
Ubuntu is shit. Use Fedora instead.
I think you'd really like Arch or Devuan. You seem to be progressing past Ubuntu.
I've been using Linux Mint since Ubuntu became a bit of a mess. Well worth a look.
Ubuntu desktop, It serves my needs. I don't have time for other distros.
