I've been reading the Economist for about 10 years. It provides great coverage on big issues, and recently, some fun ones (billie eilish comes to mind). It's unique in that it feels "slower", more deliberate, and thoughtful than most newspaper/tv channels. It gives context and covers multiple viewpoints before giving an opinion. Its daily espresso newsletter and quarterly tech issues are always interesting too.I've subscribed to NYT and WSJ over the years, but

I'd actually recommend the Economist - the writing is generally pretty good (in my opinion), but more importantly, as a weekly publication rather than daily, it's less knee-jerk about getting out the story quickly, and more focused on actually understanding the news and the implications of it.I learn more from reading the 2 front page summaries (news + business) in the Economist than from all my internet daily news reading.

Another vote for The Economist. It is a weekly publication with good writers. Meaning: it is rarely, if ever, sensational, and covers prominent issues around the globe so I stay informed after about 60 minutes of reading. I still haven't figured out which way the editorial staff swings because they do a good job of keeping explicit bias out, but they seem to be left of center.I also subscribe to The Atlantic. They are solid long-form reporting, but occasionally they get a really far-ou

Very timely question, I just purchased an issue of the Economist because I was toying with the idea of re-instating a previously held subscription. I share the disappointment. In the past, even just the book reviews were so good that they "forced" me to buy 2-3 of the reviewed books; that issue didn't intrigue me. I don't have an answer whether it's a general trend or not, as I'm trained not to ascribe too much weight to a sample of size N=1.There's probab

The Economist. Concise writing style, minimal ads, and its not just about economics as one would suspect - covers the world, tech, business. Nothing comes close, expensive though.

+1 for Economist.Don't let the titles of New York Review of Books and London Review of Books fool you. They do much longer view of contemporary news but thru book review. Most news is probably not worth following every day. The rearview mirror of a weekly magazine gives better context than trying to follow most news the same day when details are still ongoing.

Have you tried "The Economist"? It is weekly, in-depth, no fluff (mostly). Give them your money. Well worth it.

The Economist is a great alternative, it filters out all the pointless crap that doesn't really matter
