The article mentions this - TL;Dr: not yet for the robots due to planning complexities that you mention.

Sounds like more of a robotics solution than an AI solution.

jacobush Apr 24, 2019 View on HN

Doing it with robots would be almost comically hard.

seydor Mar 13, 2024 View on HN

i believe it is as hard as it is for robots to act exactly as they do during simulation

jessriedel Feb 24, 2016 View on HN

I don't think the robots who can do those things are near the physical limits, though.

joewhatkins Sep 30, 2022 View on HN

Nah - it's going to be wonky as hell, and robotics is much more complex and exacting than this. This is useful for animation or creative stuff.

Robotics is a bit harder than board games.

drclau Mar 2, 2023 View on HN

Why do you think robots would not be able to do those tasks?

chriskanan Jun 27, 2014 View on HN

After watching the robots move ultra-slowly during the Trials, I'm very happy that they are putting more time constraints on the tasks. Force the robots to be more autonomous, e.g., giving them the instruction "open the door" instead of the low-level instructions given currently, is another big change. Unfortunately, based on a conversation with one of the team-leaders, it doesn't seem like the robots are set up to handle high-level instructions, and they don't even have

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but can't they use robots for that kind of environment? Or if we aren't advanced enough for that yet
