Indeed, an opinion held by legal experts, as the title of the submission quite clearly expresses. And on the other hand there is a history of Apple refusing other government requests.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple%E2%80%93FBI_encryption_d...

Uh, because Apple specifically pushed back on this? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FBI%E2%80%93Apple_encryption_d...) Sure, it's never a guarantee but they have some decency.

This has already happened, and Apple did fight it in the US courts.Eventually the US government withdrew their demand.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple%E2%80%93FBI_encryption...

Apple? They're pretty gungho about not handing over private keys and such to the feds.

Seems like the unspoken story here isn't really about Apple, it's that the govts of the world want access to your phone data and its backups. They're already getting some of it from exploits, telcos and the cloud. They'll be back and will keep coming and it's hard to imagine any company will have the ability to stand up to them without seriously impacting their business.

The spying thing is a problem with US gov. Why are you dinging Apple for that? In fact, Apple refused to unlock the phone when FBI requested for the famous shooting case (I forgot). Others do the same - Google, Facebook, Microsoft, etc. Apple is complying to the law. Also, Apple is putting encryption in hardware to prevent this sort of a thing. They don't have keys to the device.
