I'd settle for electric sockets/plugs. Even within the European Union.

don't stress about it so much: look how many variations of plugs and sockets are for this one quite simple thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_power_plugs_and_sockets

So i am guessing the UK plug wont have this problem?

I wish there were legal protections around this. Using a standard plug means it should accept the standard for that plug.

The Type G connector serves perfectly well, and is vastly safer than the standard US outlets!

british household AC is wild, it's like they've got a full-power american range plug for every outlet

I've never understood why that is important?Incorrectly wired outlets do occur even in the US, so it seems like it's safer to take that possibility into account and just design the whole system to allow them to be interchanged (e.g. make power switches open/close both lines)

Wait, in the UK all outlets have to have physical switches. Is it not like that in the US?

I'm less shocked by Alexa suggesting this than by the poor socket design in some parts of the world allowing to short-circuit the plugs while they are inserted. This is as proper design: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuko

Im german, so the 3 pin socket is already the default. You can't do many things without protective earthing.
