How would breaking up Google fix this?
I think it could be done depending on how you slice it. For example you could definitely put YouTube as its own separate entity YouTube and google play together, as an entertainment company. Gmail plus drive and calendar as a productivivity company, web search as it’s own company. One thing that could make this easy would be to remove the google identity as a single company for SSO into all types of services. Then all the other companies could have sign in with FB Microsoft LinkedIn etc. google
Spin off the major parts of their business into genuinely separate companies - search, cloud compute, advertising, SaaS, Android and Chrome. With Google as a monolith, it's far too easy for them to bundle products and cross-subsidise unprofitable parts of their business to achieve dominance. Those independent companies can make deals that are mutually beneficial, but they'll have to answer to their shareholders and the FTC.
This is why Google should be broken up. If you let giant megacorps keep vertically integrating into insanity, of course this sort of thing will happen. Google is like thousands of companies in one. Youtube, Android, Search, Ads, Cloud, Drive, Gmail, etc should all be separate businesses.
Is Google breaking up into multiple parts?
I wonder if splitting Google into two companies could help. One doing just search and one doing just ads, with the condition that payments between them must be fixed and independent of the volume of anything.
Breaking Google into several companies would be ideal. Android, Ads/Search, Youtube, & Nest as separate companies. And then Chrome, Cloud and all their other steaming garbage could be their own mishmash.
Google should be broken up into 5 parts: Search/Adwords/Mail/Drive, Android, Chrome, Maps & GCP.
Maybe Google's search business and ad business should be broken up...
Why hasn't Google been split up yet?
