Servo Browser Engine

Discussions center on the status of Mozilla's Servo project as a Rust-based browser engine, its role as a research testbed rather than a Gecko replacement for Firefox, and the integration of its components like Stylo and WebRender into Firefox.

Servo is not Firefox. It was always a testbed research platform. Stopping development of Servo does not mean stopping development of Firefox.

Are there any (obviously as yet quite broken) browser projects using Servo?

TingPing May 3, 2022 View on HN

It's a continuation of Firefox work. Servo would mean starting from scratch.

Are there any plans for Servo to be a "real" browser, or will it always be more of a R&D playground for Firefox?

feverzsj Aug 12, 2024 View on HN

As Mozilla chose to abandon it, is Firefox still using servo?

smt1 Mar 13, 2021 View on HN

servo is written in rust, not firefox. The firefox codebase is quite old, while servo was written from scratch, being the first new web codebase in years.

Why? Servo is just a proof of concept, it won't be the future of Firefox.

Rusky Apr 11, 2017 View on HN

It's not. There's a reason Mozilla is pushing Servo.

webmobdev Sep 8, 2023 View on HN

Did Servo manage to become a full-featured browser rendering engine - I thought the project was abandoned by Mozilla?

What about Firefox based on Servo?
