Media Ownership Concentration

The cluster centers on discussions about how a small number of corporations and billionaires control the majority of US media outlets, leading to concerns over biased reporting, narrative control, and influence on public opinion and politics.

It's a billionaire controlled media empire. You want them to suddenly care about something other than money? I think you chose the wrong media to follow.

It’s the press though. Aren’t they owned by largest corporations in the world?

It is not health for a very small few individuals and companies to own a large majority of the media (including radios, tv, mags, newspapers, internet sites, etc). Look at those at the top, and follow the money.

Some might ask why this matters. The problem with these six mega-corporations is that they are controlled by a handful of billionaires and a few distasteful foreign governments that do not have the best interests of Americans in mind. These corporations own the US legacy media outlets (e.g., CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc) and most of the larger online US news sites. They have, in my opinion, been quite effective at brainwashing a huge segment of society with regard to the important political issues of ou

There is no conspiracy theory here. Just one (quite stunning) fact/statistic:"In 1983, 90% of US media was controlled by fifty companies; today, 90% is controlled by just six companies" [1]Media outlets just act in their owners' best interest (which is to eliminate competition and preserve status quo), that's all.[1] https://en.wiki

This is outdated. These days billionaires openly and publicly tell the owned media what to write.Bezos, in his own words:"I shared this note with the Washington Post team this morning:I’m writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages. We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by other

Lots of politicians and wealthy people control some media. Also, "what politician could rise whose profile wasn’t vetted by the media?" -> isn't Trump a strong countexample?

Actually your example of newspaper and TV stations exactly examplifies why billionaires have such a vast political power which is unhealthy for society. No single TV station, newspaper by itself would ever yield so much power as to be able to shape public opinion in one direction. However take the media empire of the Murdochs which yields a disproportionate amount of power in several countries, very directly pushing the ideology of it's owners.

Maybe it's more that the media companies have been bought up by oligarchs that think the narrative that's being pushed is just fine and dandy?

Hmm, I’d add that being owned by corporations does not always equate to being controlled. Editorial policy will be set by a range of people within these organisations, it can be very complex this chain of command, and the degree of influence that the board will have will vary considerably. I’d also posit that the current negative press around Facebook is of its own making to varying degrees and is the result of various substantive academic studies. The media would be doing us a disservice if the
