I think, the problem is actually deeper in the society. From what I could observe, once the our basic food/shelter needs are satisfied, we humans have an inherent need for long-term goals. Like slowly progressing one's career, or growing one's small business. Self-actualization, something to put your passion into. For instance, I myself am running a bootstrapped software business, draw immense positive energy from seeing satisfied customers and feeling that I'm the person t

I believe it's a combination of things.- everyone gets a trophy/self esteem movement. We've been taught that no matter what happens we will be told it's good. We never learned to challenge ourselves.- the move to socialising primarily online. It's very easy to find people who have the same opinions as you. People avoid useful discourse that allows both people to grow and become more aware. It promotes extremism on every side.- a quickly changing world. The path

Let's recap some potential reasons:- Inability to afford a house during their lifetime leaves them with the sole options of living with parents or renting with housemates.- Significant artificial inflation in consumer goods, no solution in sight.- A troubled job market: low wages, lack of employee protection or rights, no mandated paid time off, or unlimited sick leave. Attempts to unionize can result in termination.- A challenging dating scene, influenced by numerous factors.<p

Capitalism in the 21st century has also resulted in the highest ever recorded rate of anxiety, depression and suicide. Despite all the gains seen to capital, the average person is either completely overworked or struggling to find a job, is finding it increasingly difficult to own their house and feels more and more alienated from their local community to the extent that they prefer to live in online fantasy worlds.

People aren't stupid. What we have in the world in general (not just Asia) is a crisis in hopelessness.People are facing crippling student debt (depending on your country), one bad medical incident away from being homeless, crippling housing costs and wages that barely cover costs such that you need 1-2 "side hustles" just to make ends meet. It's really no wonder people are checking out. It's also no wonder that people aren't having children either. They simply

It's also entirely possible that life is indeed just messed up in a way that human brains didn't evolve for and can't deal with - all the societal changes, breakdowns of close relationships and communities (e.g. the disappearance of the 3rd place in addition to work and home), as well as most people being stuck in an endless stressful rat race that they will not ever escape due to the state of the economy and the moneyed interests, alongside the daily stress and social media makin

Yeah, I'd say its a symptom just like mass shootings and plunging birthrates are. I'd say the problem is the atomicity and spiritual poverty of modern American society, compounded by growing economic inequality as we debase our currency. Life sucks more now because we're lonely, tech addicted and getting poorer.

you're not wrong at all. it's clear that modern life/economy is too much for some people to deal with, and we as a society are learning how to cope with that. quite frankly the modern world is turning into a freakshow of epic proportions. media, social and otherwise, reflects that.i say this as a libertarian -- we're going to have to come to some kind of socialist equilibrium, or else people are just going to keep eliminating themselves, quickly or slowly.i think a l

"I have a feeling that people forget just how difficult things were. We start to take all our modern comforts for granted, as we spend more time dealing with our daily struggles."I have a feeling the amount of spare time we enjoy today actually plays a part in it. When you have to make your own clothes, butter, etc, you dont have time to stop and think. You just keep working.I also feel like there is a pattern among pessimistic people. When something new comes out, they weigh

More and more people are living as a lower class, relationships are fragile, internet and social media is more integrated into our lives causing shallow over socialization, short attention span and addiction for attention / likes / whatever, broken families / families with mental issues, unstable economy, owning being replaced with renting, loneliness, and increasing race against other people for financial and social survival, honestly it all looks pretty bleak, even more so for t
