Thank you for the insight. Much appreciated. Sad to know windows updates is still a problem after 10 years lol

Please dont disable auto-updates. Instead configure your Windows machine to schedule them. Look your notifications. Treat it as a Car, not as a Toy.

It's been ages since I've used Windows - does it not still force reboots for updates after that much time?

bigbugbag May 15, 2017 View on HN

Aren't you bothered that they push updates as you try to turn the PC on ? Or have you not experienced this part of windows update ?

simion314 Mar 14, 2018 View on HN

The main issue is that MS is forcing full updates not only security updates, you won't like it if your computer can't boot or for some reason MS changed the GUI,broke something you depended on.

I'm genuinely surprised Microsoft allows disabling of those automatic updates...

wtetzner Aug 5, 2023 View on HN

Does it force the updates? Ot can you postpone them indefinitely? My biggest issue with Windows was the forced reboots.

voldacar Oct 25, 2019 View on HN

It's such an anachronism that Windows still needs to reboot to update itself

vezycash May 15, 2017 View on HN

What if Microsoft instead fixed the need to restart for almost every update?

winkeltripel May 19, 2020 View on HN

having updates forced ON is the right choice. The mechanism used in windows 10 is very user hostile, and needlessly so.
