Blockchain Not Needed

Commenters repeatedly argue that blockchain is unnecessary for the proposed use case, such as data immutability or storage, and suggest simpler alternatives like hashing, git, or centralized servers while highlighting blockchain's limitations like public visibility and high costs.

You don't need a blockchain for that.https://xkcd.com/810/

Why is a blockchain required for this? Why can't a single party keep this information?

Legend2440 Jul 30, 2024 View on HN

You don't need blockchain for that, you can just use git.

the block chain is public anyway...

You could always put the hash on the blockchain. :)

You don't need a blockchain for that, though; just hash chaining or similar.

Makes me wonder about block chain data that can't be deleted

Could putting it on the blockchain helps prevent the theft? Discuss.

In fact you can't do it with a Blockchain, there's too much data to store. You can only point to a third party hosted record of the data. The Blockchain only makes it more expensive.

Doesn't this require you to trust the source? And if you trust the source, there is no need for a blockchain?
