Why is cups->mL not sufficient? Cups->grams just seems more prone to errors in general.
I wish more recipes specified ingredients by weight instead of volume.
Perhaps its the actual measurement cup vs a big mug cup.
No different than US volume measure where you actually need to have the "measuring cups". Weight is still easier, as you can refer to the reference range of 'large' and reproduce it on a scale.
That where recipes goes wrong, how much is a cup or a 1/2 cup? How much is a stick of butter? Why not 250gr of flower, 125 gr of sugar, 100gr of butter.
Might be the only viable way, as conversion factors are ingredient specific (e.g. Milk/Flour, Cups vs Liter/Grams)
This is not an American thing, that's just a bad recipe. They should specify tablespoon or teaspoon.
Isnt it a UI/UX question? Most people have measuring cups in their kitchen. Not everyone has a scale.
Cooking isn't baking. Recipes with a mix of languages are usually better. Those units are fine for home use. Recipes, as algorithms/programs, are meant to be run, and iterated on. If you do make them, you can also weigh out all the ingredients in grams for future cooks if you want more exactness, discarding volumes and multiple units.
Tell that to all the people who write recipes without weight measurements
