In general, it is not good to illegally share a lane with anpther vehicle. If you want to pass, move to an open lane.
I drive the speed limit. If I did that in the middle lane, people would be passing me on both sides. The right lane is for slower traffic. Lanes to the left are for passing. Merging is the responsibility of the drivers merging.

The state highway I take to work frequently has State Patrols pulling people over who are getting passed by people in the right lanes. It’s a law in my state to move over even if the person who passed you in the right lane is speeding.
It's about sitting in the right most lane, because it's more convient, and not because you're passing.
