Cool nice place to promote student projects.
Are hackathons just a university thing, then...?
There's an interesting organization called Year Up[1] - I have volunteered there and it was a great experience. I think a lot of people on HN could have a significant impact on students there.http://yearup.org/
While it might not be interesting for some people already working in a company (as you mentioned in the FAQ), it might very well be interesting for some students for example. Instead of an internship, they could work on their project for 2 months (or more) with your help. This is an amazing initiative. I study (in parallel of my own company) in a really good engineering school specialized in the field of computer science in France. If you would like to get some people there. While I am not direc
As a student who is hoping to study Computer Science in a years time, I hope that the university I enrol at encourages such projects!
Great idea! It's a nice way for people to find work or study experience. We'll look into reaching out to undergraduate programmes.
This is really great. I always wished something like this existed when I was going through CS undergrad (and grad, for that matter). Have you tried reaching out to any CS professors to tell them about it? You might also spread the word by telling some "coding interview" blogs about it.
This sounds like something straight out of Wayne Enterprises. I wish more companies could do things like this and see what can be created and achieved. An area that I could see being able to do something like this without having to face Shareholders, management, etc. that most companies have to do is Universities. University students should be able to take advantage of the resources that universities have and universities should encourage this. They could essentially have a new flock of minds ev
Though universities aren't doing this yet, Upstart is: http://upstart.com/
Hey, I remember this project! I had the chance to give a bit of advice to the creator, Zach Scholl while I was working at Duke's Co-Lab [1]. It was cool then, and looks like it's only improved in robustness since (and it sounds like HN has plenty of ideas for PRs).Although I no longer work/learn at the Co-Lab I'd love to plug the value of these sorts of programs at schools. They give encouragement with money and publicity, and most importantly, tools (VMs/APIs) and ad
