Pictures are weird.I've always hated being in pictures, but I wish there were more of my everyday life growing up (including my 20's) to show my son. Digging through my grandparents house and seeing 1000's of photos of fireworks, parades, etc I know what you mean, just enjoy it. But slice of life photos of my grandpa being a young father to my mom and aunts/uncles gives an interesting perspective I'm very glad was captured.I spent a few weeks in Japan years ago and

I feel this but I also just google photos and it will show me slideshows from trips or moments in my life in the past and I'm like wow I forgot about that wonderful moment. Please keep photographing.

Am I the only one who doesn't re-live these moments? I see people constantly interrupting special moments to capture them in photos and videos, but I have trouble finding anyone who derives a meaningful amount of satisfaction from them later on. I have lots of photos that I've spent way more time managing, transferring between providers, and worrying about than I've ever actually spent time browsing through. Am I an outlier? Are there people out there who really go through the

I miss when people spent more time looking at pictures than taking them.

You must be young. You are not interested in your own photos. Your children will be mildly interested, but only around the time they have children. They will display some photos of you at your funeral. Your great-grandchildren will not even know your name. All forgotten. The world is full of phones, which are full of photos, that nobody will ever look at.Look more intently, see more, evaluate and remember, photograph less.

Taking some pictures is great. Having some pics to look at a vacation years down the line is good for refreshing memories and emotions and to relive those moments. But that's achievable with a few pictures a day, whereas many people now take hundreds or more and never even look at them again. It's like hoarding behavior or bookmarking web pages or buying books you never end up opening.

i am like this too. i have lots and lots of janky photos that aren't insta-worthy but fulfill their core purpose as little time machines

It's not just you, taking photos of something can impair your actual memory of the moment itself https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S221136811...

When I was a teenager, I had this silly idea. I didn't really bother taking photos because I thought it was better to just see things myself instead of through a camera. I told myself, "I'd rather see it in real life than through a camera lens". I figured since my friends were always taking pictures, I could just get copies from them later on.Turns out, that 'later' never really happened. Friends moved on, and now, I barely have any photos from back then, and my

I'm with you here! I take lots of pictures. I picked up that stupid habit when I was a teenager with my family's digital camera. Eventually got a small canon for christmas and kept it in my pocket until I had a smartphone.I'm not the kinda person to hold my camera up in the air filming a concert or whatever. But pictures of family! Pictures of random food I enjoyed or found cute. Pictures of random cute things in the store. Pictures of friends and cars and the beach and whateve
