Is getting only 3 weeks of vacation self-imposed for most US workers?

Well, in EU you have fixed vacation days _usually_ and you MUST take it, so it is possible that it is just a really good company in US

Two or even three weeks seems very unhealthy to me:- You need a longer break to seriously disconnect: at least two weeks.- Around Christmas/New Year you probably want to be around family and friends: one week.- At least a week distributed over the year to do something fun with your kid, visit that distant friend, etc.Maybe it's because I come from Western Europe, where getting 5 weeks (25-30 days) off in total is pretty normal. But I cannot imagine not breaking yourself at

By "vacation" you mean fully paid days ? Unlimited?

well the country I live in we work less than 50 weeks a year due to holidays and 25 days off a year minimum, and then you have sick days as well

Here in America, I had ... 31 days off work last year, and usually travel completely off grid. There exist employers with less generous policies in the US, and there exist workaholic employees, but neither is necessarily the norm.

There is no law regarding time off. At my work I get 10 fixed days (christmas, thanksgiving, etc.) + 1 day per pay period - so about 36 business days off a year. However, the days can roll over from year to year and I hardly ever take time off because I enjoy working. I currently could take off about 3 months of paid vacaton. Every 5 years I get a 6 week paid sabbatical.

Please note that many european countries have between 30 and 50 days paid leave.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minimum_annual_leave_b...

2-3 weeks is a long time in the US. I get 10 days off a year, many people get less. Federally mandated vacation is also not a thing here.

Employed people would probably take a week of vacation unless they have FU money.
