equifax is still around after leaking enough information to steal the identities of half of america?
to be fair it's scarier that someone with a immutable secret number can steal your identity.credit companies now have to do their due diligence before shooting loans left and right.this is THE normal in most of the world.
Identity Theft is not a thing. Others have pointed this out in the past here on HN.https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7369725https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6583776https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7369713<a hre
You've missed the point. This is more similar to identify theft.
Your personal experience is not statistically relevant data. It is a major problem here in the US, not just fraudulent transactions, but people signing up for credit cards in your name since the equifax data leak, people creating fake ids to be used to reset your accounts in person, constant phone calls attempting to scam people, and even letters in the mail withhuge print saying “last notice - important - pay now” with very small print saying “this is an offer not an invoice” or like that trick
Do you have your credit frozen with just Equifax, or something? Just trying to think of vanilla (i.e. incompetence rather than malice) reasons to explain this. Of course, it goes without saying that they all suck...
