Yes, it's worse than a VR headset!

Are VR headsets better for the eyes than a screen?

ekianjo Jun 30, 2024 View on HN

a VR headset is hardly a replacement for an actual monitor especially for long periods of time

the current generation of vr headsets aren't useable for extended periods. too heavy, too hot and too clunkylosing peripheral vision is a bigger annoyance than i expected also

I think there is probably a non trivial gap in terms of how comfortable it is to wear a VR helmet vs a pair of glasses

glasses won't take over your entire fov though so it suck for VR. maybe better for AR

I can communicate over internet without AR/VR headset now. Why should I wear it?

The main issue with VR is that there is still a headset that you have to wear, which even at a pound weight will make most peoples neck sore after a while (considering people who will get this probably don't have the best habits for posture anyways). There is a reason why most VR headsets get used only once. Will be interesting to see if the experience in this can offset it. My bet is on no. I wish the focus would shift to AR.
