They are referring to the part when people with weapons stormed the US Capitol building in order to stop part of the peaceful transfer of power.

How was “it” an insurrection? What is even “it”? Are you talking about the entire group that heard Trump’s speech and marched to the Capitol? Because if so then the vast majority protested peacefully outside the barriers and broke no laws. I think they meant the one with the unprecedented violent riots in the Capitol that resulted in some folks dying. Could be wrong.

They believed they were properly mobilized. I mean they were chanting "Hang Mike Pence", tried to stop the certification of votes, and fought with and injured officers inside the capitol. That meets my bar for "a violent uprising against an authority or government". Also sword + handing out pamphlets != gun + breaking into the capitol.EDIT: removed "and directly killed at least 1 officer" due to reply.

Hopefully Trump (called for insurrection and dictatorship), and the people who constructed a gallows outside and stormed and sacked the capitol (actual insurrection) get a timeout.This should not be controversial if you like living in a democracy.
