This is correct. It's unfortunate, but unless you can mandate Google to change their entire interviewing regime, you have to simply understand that this is the perspective, and move forward demonstrating yourself against this criteria, whatever else you may think.
What's the standard interview process at Google? Does it really take 3 months of interviewing to get a job?
This is normal for Google's byzantine hiring process. I got in once a while back (way before what I'm doing now) with a high recommendation from an insider, successfully cleared the interviews, and never heard anything. They even flew me to Mountain View.The second time they called, I declined.
