This is ignoring the fact that there are people who actually enjoy exchanging pleasantries. Make a list with 2 columns: 1) people that enjoy small talk 2) people that dislike small talk. Act accordingly.

It's not about what you want it's about what others may like to hear from you. And if you're doing something all day long and you can't talk about it, what do you talk about? you'll be like a foreign object to others
Your description above is very similar to how I would describe things, yet I have no problem with small talk.
