the term is old relative to the subject and the participants. it is misused, misunderstood, misheard, misrepresented, etc. it is loaded, tainted, so much so that someone is going to pop up and derail things.the author even took the time to acknowledge that there were several valid complaints. before decreeing them unhelpful.is this not a tremendous amount of effort spent on insisting words be used?it’s ok to call it something else.

Yeah, once you get to "user" and "submit" it starts to appear as if these folks take offense to those words ever being defined in the first place. I refuse to apologize for useful words that exist not only in our language, but that are also deeply embedded in our minds. These people are demanding that we "forget" what we know is true, and replace it with something that is not true.Misappropriating and subsequently weaponizing commonly used words is a trash move,

Mucking up the language is a crime against understanding.Redefining established words is not acceptable.Anyway, this discussion is a red herring.Adria just wants an excuse to be racist, and you're defending her.

I dunno, some people¹ clearly care about the meaning of words, and are pained when the meaning doesn't align with the idea the words are picked to communicate.Perhaps we could allow ourselves to be unhappy when spotting such abuse in the wild (ranging from "OpenAI" which isn't open to "genocide" resulting explosive population growth), and all of us will be better off from it._____ ¹Like Orwell; see <a href="https://www.orwellfoundation.com

Nothing. I'm just explaining why words evolve and why we choose to use more precise language. If you want to be more vague I certainly won't stop you.

The entire issue disappears if you just don't call them "fake." It's highly loaded language which doesn't forward your expressed goal of understanding and discussing the phenomenon.

I think they're politely asking for the far left to stop with the language inflation. Use words with appropriate and proportionate meanings. Do not try to gradually be more and more dramatic and impactful.

Forcing people to use the term “terminological inexactitude” in lieu of “bullshit” just results in the term being used as a new synonym for “bullshit”. Don’t underestimate people’s creativity in evolving their language around whatever restrictions you place, e.g. people bypassing censors by using $ instead of s, or spamming the crouch button on a player’s corpse in an FPS game without saying a word, or spamming “What a save” as an insult in Rocket League, etc.

Yes, but this is not one of those words that is slightly changing in its meaning. Instead, it is flipping the meaning altogether. This misuse sabotages core boolean constructs of the language. Imagine if we lose the word "drop" to this trend. What then will we use to actually mean "drop"? Will they go after "delete" next to pretend to be cooler? Is nothing sacred?

Is the use of those quoted words what you dislike? Would you have a different sense of it if we replaced those words with "foo" and "bar" so that we could use more nuanced concepts?
