I almost never plug my phone in the car, and I have wireless android auto dongle. Might be an iPhone issue.

I think the idea is your phone will do that for you via carplay (etc)

I bet it won't let a passenger connect a Bluetooth device while it's running though

this would have been cool if it didn't require you to have an iOS device. like the car should just have it built in. the entire iPhone.

Wtf do you need an app to use a car? It should just work.

My car has navigation. I don't need it on my phone too.

The user experience is also terrible. In all the Bluetooth enabled cars I saw, the audio starts playing the moment the phone connects to the car. There isn’t anyway to disable it. This is a problem for atleast 5-7yrs now. Even Tesla and apple couldn’t fix it

Cars are just not phones, don't treat them as such

Not always. About 50% of the time I need to mess with bluetooth settings on my car because it paired to the wrong device. That involves navigating through at least three menus and hitting small-size buttons on the far side of the screen from the driver.

I feel like you're just making up a strawman here. It's pretty clear (at least to me), that the people who want a dumb car are talking about things integrating with your phone or being displayed on a touch screen.Personally, I really enjoy that with our new van I can listen to a podcast/music through Bluetooth and pause/resume playback through a simple touchscreen without having to fiddle with my phone directly.
