Do you use a VOIP number by any chance?

I use voip.ms. It has a good service. Some limited SIP knowledge help if you wish to make it work ok.

Why wouldn't they use VOIP instead of direct PSTN connection?

I use voip.ms, I'm very happy with their service. They have well documented REST API service for access.

Would you be able to name the voip provider?

tguvot Mar 17, 2023 View on HN

you can get voip service and forward calls there.

voip.ms offers inbound sms on sip calls. $1 a month for a # and then you can use csipsimple or other voip software

voip.ms requires setting up SIP credentials and configuring a softphone (or their app). Great for technical users who want maximum control and lowest rates. Voklit is for people who wish to download an app / use the browser and start calling immediately without touching any settings.
