It’s not like a battery is soldered there, you can still replace it and it’ll cost you much less than getting a new phone. AFAIK I can still get a new battery on my iPhone 7 which is 4.5 years old.
You can replace the battery, it’s just that they want to save as much space as possible for smaller and smaller phones. Also having to take it in to replace the battery means you’ll probably think about buying a new phone instead which is what you’re implying.
Replaceable in the same sense as iPhone batteries are user serviceable, yes, and apparently battery over-discharging is a known issue as well from a quick Google search.
Just make it so the batteries are easily replaceable. It's wasteful to buy a brand new phone when all you need is a new battery.
You don't have to throw those phones away right now. Apple can easily replace batteries for you. The consumer doesn't need to be able to do this with a bigass Philips-head screwdriver in order to accomplish this goal.
The batteries are replaceable, but it's not easy (or valid in warranty) for a user to do it. Apple can replace them, however.
Battery replacements aren’t prohibitively expensive, and iPhone at least don’t get ‘thrown out’ - they get recycled or reconditioned.
Replaceable batteries in smartphones will return? I might wait for that.
things that dont last long are replaceable though.no one complains about not being able to replace the processor in their phone because it 'never' breaks. batteries on the other hand do, and to varying degrees are replaceable.
Or just make the battery replaceable.
