That's just a bit over 1k / month -- similar to rent in SF :-P
you are underpaid if a single bedroom costs around 1500-1600$ per month in your country
In many urban areas, rent is not $1000 a month, let alone $2000 or $3000. In smaller cities you can often find rooms for $250-$500, although that seems to be changing very quickly in my area. Jobs often pay less too.
I pay around $1300 for a 1 bedroom apartment. This is a bit on the high side, but I like living in the city center, in summer it's almost European.
It's HN, I just assume everyone pays like 5k~ in rent.
The rent figures are an exaggeration. I lived in a mediocre studio for between $1.8k and $1.9k. $3k will get you a mediocre 1 bedroom or a pretty good studio.
Where are you living 30 minutes out that the rent isn't still an egregious > 1.5k/mo?
Probably living somewhere that allows you to rent a room for less than half a bazillion dollar per day.
It's certainly possible I've become numb to the idea of paying $2k+ a month in rent, but as far as I'm aware this is the cost of a typical 1 bedroom in LA or Seattle and cost of a smaller studio in NYC.The difference is the salary you can command in SF is well above the difference in cost.
Still cheaper than paying rent in Bay Area I assume?
