Android because 2-3 years of updates is far shorter than the lifespan of the hardware.
>Device manufactures depend on you buying new phones. They cannot support phones after two years or else it kills their profit margins. This is the reason after using Nexus devices for 5 year, I will buy an iPhone and I will never ever look at Android again. My girlfriend switched from Galaxy note 4 to iPhone last year, and she is amazed how much iPhone experience is better than high-end Android experience.2 year only update? Give me a fucking break, this total rip off. If I remember cor
Even on the latest model Pixel phones Google still refuses to commit to more than 3 years of Android updates... They have at least lengthened the security update timeline to a whole 5 years.I bought an iphone around the launch of the Pixel 4, which is now nearing it's end of support. Meanwhile Apple has provided the latest updates to devices that launched 7 years ago.
The shelf life of _android_ phones is low, and it's strikingly different on iOS which receive updates for 5+ years.
Wonder if they'll support timely major Android version updates for 5+ years like Apple does.
Some newer Android phones seem to be bucking this trend with longer and longer support windows:- Pixel 8 phones will get guaranteed Android version updates for at least 7 years until at least 2030. It got better in the past 2 years. The latest Pixel or Samsung gives you 5 years of support. 3 major updates + 2 years of security updates on the Pixel and 4 major updates + 1 year of security updates on a Samsung. An iPhone gets you 6 major iOS updates, I think.
Yes, Apple deserves some credit for being early to it but now Google and Samsung offer 7 year support for their newer phones too.
I just looked into this issue over the weekend, since my current phone is now EOL. The newest phones from Google and Samsung just upped their support lifetime from 3 years of software updates[1][2]. Their newer phones now get 3 or 4 years of feature updates, and 5 years of security updates. Not as impressive as Apple, but it's a welcome improvement. Soon it might actually make sense to buy older Pixel or Galaxy models without worrying about them going EOL just a year or 2 after you get th
But Apple supports iPhones for 4-5 years. Google has said they will only support their flagship Nexus and Pixel phones for no more than 2 years. For a $700 device this is unacceptable.
