Airbnb processes are Kafkaesque and a malicious host can really screw you over due to their superior knowledge of the system. I stopped using them after a particularly bad experience this summer. The property is still up btw with glowing reviews, because to host managed to get my factual review expunged.

AirBnB should blacklist hosts for actions like this

Perhaps a payout under the terms ofhttps://www.airbnb.com/terms/host_guaranteewill mitigate the issue that this particular host encountered.

When I have had a host screw me over in a major city where finding accommodation in a peak time is incredibly difficult, I've complained to Airbnb very persistently and aggressively, and they've compensated me.

Airbnb will always side with the host if possible, because hosts are much more valuable to their platform than guests. I had a similar situation a couple years ago when Santa Cruz was hit with catastrophic flooding; despite providing them with plenty of evidence that the place I was trying to visit qualified for a refund, Airbnb refused to give me one (telling me I needed to get one from the host, who was also not obliging) in clear violation of their policies. They also later deleted a negative

It seems hosts are the only side of the equation AirBnb folks care about.Airbnb let the host write a review on us for the stay which we didn't even take, as when we arrived in the apartment it was in a such appalling state, dirty, broken - we had to spend 4 hours inside while looking for the r

Just talk to Airbnb. They have really good customer support and if a host is doing anything fishy they will offer full refunds with an additional credit for a future booking.I encountered a similar situation in Portland a couple weeks ago and Airbnb was great!

Shitty experience. Shame on Airbnb. no amount of noble words on billboards can fix this. Maybe they somehow spy on their users hence the appeal process would reveal that they know more than should.

AirBnB takes down negative reviews. I had a poor experience and wrote about my experience. When I asked for a refund, a small percentage was refunded by the host. AirBnB immediately took down my review and then refused to communicate.
