This cluster focuses on how drones, AI, and autonomous systems are transforming modern warfare, predicting a shift to machine-vs-machine conflicts with reduced human involvement, often referencing the Ukraine war and implications for strategy and ethics.

It will be more like a pin prick or a grenade. The tech is basically here already and we don't need AGI to realize the potential. Just look at what they are doing with drones in Ukraine to see where things are headed in warfare. Now pack them into a cluster bomb like delivery system and tell them to kill anything that looks like a human.

Will the next major war see only drones fighting?

This kind of war is largely irrelevant for first world countries. Financial engineering is more relevant. If you prefer brute force, there are weapons that makes military that involves human largely obsolete. What you describe was relevant for WWII . The army and so on are only used in later phases when most of the defenses of the opponent are neutralized.

IMHO delaying the inevitable is not a plan. We need to find a way to survive the inevitable use and deployment of technology by others. This stuff is no longer rocket science. Any idiot with a raspberry pi and some basic tooling can build some quite effective weaponry. Most of the AI you need for this is OSS and getting easier to use by the month. This is not at all like nuclear warfare where you need a lot of skills, knowledge, infrastructure, and capital expenses to be able to put a weapon tog

Isn't a tool for the last generation's war? Won't the future will be cheap as dirt drone swarms?

Drone tech, satellite tech, phone applications for war (I assume), and bringing war to social media are actively changing the state of warfare as we know it in Ukraine. The idea that violence isn't necessarily bad and can also be a force for good is something I think will change the tech landscape. A lot of those people at google who said no to killer robots are probably having second thoughts, being one of those types of people, it certainly modulated my opinion.

The haves fight drone wars between themselves. But that won't happen because of nuclear deterrent. So the haves will fight with drones and the have-nots will spill their blood. This was presaged in Afghanistan. Army drone pilots did their shift killing Afghan soldiers with drones in an American base, get in car, drive to family in suburbs once your shift was up.Next up: all those "shooter" gamers can get paid to operate robot infantry! None of that pesky resistance to actua

You can't be naive enough to believe wars of the future will only involve machines fighting other machines.

I’m surprised that that the Ukraine war wasn’t talked about more. Not only did we go through a significant number of shells, but it also shows that the traditional warfare that large countries like the USA and Russia are geared for is out of touch. It’s like bringing a knife to a metaverse fight. Drones, portable missiles, and small groups have proven incredibly effective. Ukraine doesn’t even have a navy and Russian ships are wary of coming within a few dozen miles of the shore. Not only do we

Not sure why you're getting downvoted - this entire operation should cause a major rethink of military operations based on new technology. The proximal goal of any weapons system or operation is to deliver live ordinance to the target, preferably at minimal risk to those doing the delivering. From WWI to WWII, the progress seemed to be to deliver larger volumes of ordinance, with some increases in accuracy. Since then, it's been longer range and higher accuracy, to the poin
