First, most people in the West were very much against the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Especially before the Iraq war, we had the largest anti-war protests in modern Europe:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protests_against_the_Iraq_WarNot hundreds of thousands but millions went on the streets in major European streets. The invasion on Iraq was as bad as invas

Most people aren't even aware of most wars and will likely follow whatever it's safe to support. The Irak war was safe to support until it was marginalizing to do so.You want to look like a weirdo? Just tell your friends how worried you are about the war in Yemen, and how evil you think it is that USA is supporting Saudi Arabia. Most people will put you in the crazy conspiracy theories bucket. The only reason people are so concerned about Ukraine is because it's all over the

Might want to update the talking points given the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the war in Ukraine.> little oversight by the American publicI think people underestimate how popular ill-defined military action towards "terrorists" has been, and how roundly people would be criticized as unpatriotic for questioning it.

Well written, +1One could even argue that it did indeed happened "here". Take a look at recent Iraq invasion under President Bush. Least at least 8 years, at cost of 150-650 thousands (!!) of lives lost, about 110,000 civilians included... and what happened other than few street riots and march under White House? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Average American family continues to live average american life and even as we still don't know why this war was started, life goes on :(<

I agree that the USA is different from Europe in this respect. The invasion on Afghanistan and Iraq was completely wrong, and in the case of Iraq based on falsified information, and the final result was worse than before. And although I'm happy Obama withdrew the troops from Iraq and Biden from Afghanistan, it looks like there simply wasn't an exit plan and responsibility for the people left behind. They had to deal with the consequences of wars waged by Bush under the impulse of 9

this is a silly caricature.historically, a majority of Americans supported both the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq when they started, and public opinion did not turn against them for several years, and even then it was not an overwhelming majority.Obama campaigned on the folly of those wars but chose to stay involved because it was believed by many that some level of success could yet be achieved for the people in those countries, who were in many cases partnering with the US.Nevertheless

The US has basically 2 geopolitical threats - the EU and China. Destabilising the middle east might have inconvenienced them and denied access to the oil reserves there.Apart from that silver lining, the US's adventures in that region have been expensive failures that have presumably spawned a generation of hatred and fear, and provided a cover of distraction from issues that might actually matter (like dealing with a debt burden that is on par with the World-War II response, or the diss

Not with popular support it's not. For proof that the opposite is actually true see Vietnam/Iraq/Syria/Gaza/Egypt, etc.

Do you actually not understand or is this a political quip? If you spend any time around normal Americans its really not surprising. Having thousands of soldiers stationed for a decade+ over seas in a war zone in a war of attrition with no real objective, is seen as very different than "bomb the commies bringing drugs into the country". US people are really anti war, very pro bombing communists, terrorists, and drug cartels. One puts American soldier's lives at risks, one doesn&#x
