"Workers aren't putting themselves at risk when they go to work" is a myth.

Nowhere, but the grandparent comment literally contains the phrase "workplace safety" and talks about OSHA. This entire comment chain is about people having agency to choose a highly dangerous profession in exchange for good compensation.

Pretty messed up they wouldn't let you endanger them at their own workplace

Seems like a small price to pay to not dismember your employees with accidents.

The problem is not the customer safety, it's the worker's. Look into how things used to be done in the "good old days" and see if you'd be ok going to that kind of job. [1][1] https://www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=CRN1913010...

It seems like they're typically jobs where the employee has a high chance of either being injured, or causing a lot of damage.

But everyone is obligated to minimize their risk of dying in most companies! You don't see people expressing their freedom to do as they please when working with high voltage equipment, chemicals, or anything remotely hazardous. Even when it's only themselves who'd be affected.

Not if you have a job that requires stringent safety requirements.

Betcha their worker injuries per kg to LEO are lower than most companies.

It's likely an allegation of lax worker safety, i.e. the workers should wear safety (a.k.a "steel toe") boots.
