The cluster focuses on the risks and control issues of country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs), such as potential government seizures or restrictions, compared to generic TLDs like .com under US influence, with examples like .ly, .io, and .su.

Really? what about countries that allow just .ccTLD?

gesman Nov 30, 2019 View on HN

That's a problem with all country-specific TLD's. At any moment country 'X' can decide to take over '.xx' and nothing anyone can do.

The perils of country-specific TLDs. Spare a thought for the poor Cook Islanders.

Since .com/.net/org are controlled by a US company, you'd probably have to use a ccTLD like .ly and make sure to use a non-US registrar.

bitJericho Jul 1, 2014 View on HN

Sorry, I should say international non-US tld, or in other words, a TLD not under the control of the US.

pcora Jan 22, 2016 View on HN

they probably become a TLD without country affiliation. like .amazon or .google

nephanth Sep 9, 2022 View on HN

Regional TLDs like .us .uk .fr .ru etc. do make sense though

remedan Apr 29, 2023 View on HN

Aren't both of those country TLDs?

noarchy Jul 6, 2011 View on HN

Are there currently any TLDs that are not under the control of a country?

w1ntermute Apr 17, 2011 View on HN

And if the TLD is under the control of another country?
