Really? what about countries that allow just .ccTLD?
That's a problem with all country-specific TLD's. At any moment country 'X' can decide to take over '.xx' and nothing anyone can do.

Since .com/.net/org are controlled by a US company, you'd probably have to use a ccTLD like .ly and make sure to use a non-US registrar.
Sorry, I should say international non-US tld, or in other words, a TLD not under the control of the US.
they probably become a TLD without country affiliation. like .amazon or .google
Regional TLDs like .us .uk .fr .ru etc. do make sense though
