whoa.... postgres is moving quickly and taking jobs away from other databases. Maybe we need to hold up for 6 months on any new uses for postgres until we all have some time to figure this out.

What would it take for something like this to make it into Postgres?

clemsen Oct 8, 2014 View on HN

Great article. I am not a real programmer (but regular user of Postgres for scientific data storage) and do not get every detail. But do these changes have a chance of being implemented in a future version of Postgres or are these improvements tied to CitusDB?

This is cool! I wish tools like postgres had them too.

I have some skunkworks projects that attempt the same on postgres. If you ever get to the point of wanting contributions, let me know.

I didn’t see it in the article but that’s exactly what https://postgres.ai/ is doing already unless I’m missing some thing.

Fantastic. I've always wondered why Postgres doesn't have this built in. Wish it was open source.

evanelias Aug 23, 2024 View on HN

Nope, weirdly Postgres still doesn't have that ability even today.

What? I would be proud to have got this into postgres core, but perhaps you operate on a different plane of excellence. https://git.postgresql.org/gitweb/?p=po
