I'm impressed by the honesty. Doesn't seem to be the arrogant guy many people play him up to be.
I met him, he’s very nice in person (at least over the course of a day, say). Kind, patient and genuinely interested in other people. So I doubt it is as simple as he’s a horrible person. But clearly he’s an outlier in terms of demanding recognition.
Never listened to him talk but he's surprisingly down to earth, interesting, and levelheaded.
Despite what people may think based on his "style", he's always come across as a really nice guy to me. Reminds me of one of my best friends actually, seems like an arsehole but is one of the most genuine and caring people I know. Funny how that can be the case :)
The more I hear about this guy, the more I like him. He is so frank, it seems like he'd be a very interesting person to meet.
Fair enough! He really is a remarkable guy.
Yea.. I'm surprised how negative the comments are here. He seems to be genuinely interested in a wide range of topics. He is able to have intelligible conversations across this wide spectrum and approaches it all with the incredible humility required to learn and teach well. His style is different but I would be hard pressed to think of anyone else that could have these conversations so well.
I didn't know him personally, but I loved how he came across to me as both a cantankerous 'old' man AND an infectiously 'young' enthusiast in his talks.
I think you're right, he seems like a super nice dude in his interviews :)
His "now for the tricky bit" talk was not only funny but thought provoking. He was kind and very open minded. Thanks for pointing this out.
