You often feel that bug reporting just goes to dev/null

chris_wot Jan 12, 2014 View on HN

I'd rather they were reported than not. You can't fix bugs that aren't known about!

Marazan Jan 22, 2026 View on HN

It's not their job to fix your bug.

qwertytyyuu Nov 12, 2025 View on HN

bug reports are still good... but yeah they really should contribute to development too

haspok Jul 21, 2022 View on HN

Innocent question: if nobody found those bugs, what value does it add to fix them?

dymk Sep 17, 2025 View on HN

Because you want them to fix a bug they might not be aware of, and bug reports are also votes of importance

Why wouldn't the author want things like bug reports?

ecdavis Jun 15, 2015 View on HN

Investigating and reporting a bug should never be considered "singling out" of a piece of software. Personally, I'd be grateful if someone pointed out a critical issue like this in my code. It means I have the opportunity to fix it!

You are forgetting that typically many users want a bug fixed.

This sounds like complaining about users being able to report bugs.
