I second "Eloquent Javascript" - it's excellent.
Highly recommend reading "JavaScript: The Good Parts" by Douglas Crockford, it's an excellent book.
You're obviously reading the wrong books. Try Programming Perl, Clojure in Action or Well Grounded Rubyist. If you have a soul you will not want to part with them.
can i get some recommendations on what book to buy ? other then the official the pragmatic programmer...
"JavaScript, The Good Parts" is not really relevant to modern JS. But Crockford's new book "How JavaScript Works" is basically the updated version. As an amateur coder I found it very useful, definitely worth reading.
I would get 5 books on the topic. Bring them home, try them all, and you're bound to find one that you like and can work your way through. One I'd recommend is "Eloquent Javascript". It may be a tiny bit out of date now (I read it over 5 years ago maybe, and Javascript has improved a lot since then), but it's a solid book.Other books you might like: Pragmatic Programmer, Pattern on the Stone, Clean Code, Mastering Regular Expressions.
Coders at Work: Reflections on the Craft of Programming - Peter Seibelhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1430219483great book, easy reading, inspiring and insightful, highly recommended!
I recommend Eloquent JavaScript. It is free but very good.
What other books does every serious programmer need?
Eloquent Javascript. It's one of the best introductions to programming I've ever read. http://eloquentjavascript.net/
